At the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission of UNESCO from 28th September to 2
nd October 2009, they decided over 111 nominations from around the world. At a meeting in
Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, 77 items were added to the representative
list of intangible cultural heritage, including the Mohács Busho Carnival nominated by
Hungary. You can read about the result (among other sources) on the UNESCO website,
where you can also find a short description of the Busho Carnival.
By adding items to the international list, the organization wishes to draw attention to the
protection of elements of cultural heritage that live on in words, knowledge, skills or customs.
Today, preserving and actively experiencing the culture of local and small communities can
help strengthen community identity and cultural diversity.
